Secondary Education Placement

Odyssey students are well prepared for their next educational step – whatever it may be.

We know that at the end of 8th grade, when students complete their educational odyssey with us, they will have developed many traits of the true epic hero. They will have strength, courage, self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, innovative creativity, the ability to be a convincing and articulate speaker, and most importantly they will have learned to think before acting, using reason and inquiry to evaluate their next steps.

Some of our students go on to a variety of independent, parochial, and vocational schools, while others continue their journey at their local public high schools.

One of the benefits of attending a private school like Odyssey Day School is that you are not on your own when it comes time to leave! A high percentage of our students are accepted to their first-choice school. Secondary schools that have accepted our students include:

Our Head of School manages the secondary school placement process for graduating students. It is highly personalized to each student and family, and takes into account each unique set of circumstances, including the interests and talents of the child, desires of the parents, financial situations, and potential academic and social match.

As part of the placement process, the Head of School works with parents and students in many ways, meeting individually and in groups with parents and students, suggesting schools to consider, conducting mock interviews with students to prepare and coach them for a successful secondary school interview, overseeing the teacher recommendation process, organizing the paper flow and carefully meeting deadlines, and being supportive in whatever other ways that are needed throughout all steps of the application process and eventual transition to high school, wherever students may go.
