Math Club

Odyssey’s Math Club focuses on participation in the AMC 8, a national competition sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America with a goal of increasing interest in mathematics and developing problem-solving skills in middle school students. During October and November, Odyssey students gather weekly after school to practice for the competition, working through problems from prior exams and discussing various approaches and strategies.

Many Odyssey students in 2nd through 8th grade chose to take the AMC 8. The competition’s 25 questions, solved over 40 minutes, cover a wide range of topics in varying levels of difficulty.  Some of our students were in the top 5% nationally with a total of five participants placing among the top fifth of all participants. The higher performing students were invited to participate in the AMC 10 (based on common 10th grade math knowledge).

Student Council

Student Council offers Odyssey elementary students the opportunity to actively participate in school-wide initiatives, lend their hands to community causes, and see democracy in action. Each classroom has student council representatives and there are four elected student leaders for the entire student body.

Over the last few years, the student council has effectively opened and run a school store to sell Odyssey spirit wear, organized and conducted food drives for the WIFP (Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry), entered a float in the Wakefield Independence Day parade, organized the school’s yearly Spirit Week and fundraised through yearly events such as the much anticipated Dance-a-thon.

Odyssey Day School Community Service Club

Our Community Service Club is a member of the Roots & Shoots International Youth Service Program of the Jane Goodall Institute, and will be embracing and working with the model of “Compassionate Leadership” which Roots & Shoots promotes.
